Help needed - aaarrgghh

Post by Gandalf »

Right - just changed the injector pipes on my van (1.6TD JX) and gone to turn the engine over and after an initial couple of turns the battery seemed to die but there was a weird high pitched sound coming from the relay box in the engine compartment. Tried to jump start from the missus car but still no go - again turned over initially but then nothing apart from after a couple of seconds of not turning it over the sound from the fuse/relay box?? Anyone got any ideas?

I'm thinking new battery but it should have started with the jump from the missuses battery. So there must be something else??

Wanted to get this sorted today and was chuffed I managed to fit the new pipes but now very :(

So I assume you never investigated the whine or whiring noise that was coming from the Black Box in the engine bay-------------- :idea
The same happened to me last month problem starting, glowplug flashing intermitently, then whirring noise from engine compartment, Checked blackbox wiring was ok but 50amp Fuse looked abit shot, (Fuse does breakdown over a period) I replaced the fuse and everything ok now------ :ok

Yep sorry - looked in the box - loads of wires but two large relays - one had 50 and the other 90? Are you saying replace the 50? Sorry not much good with engines/electrics. Glowplug light goes out as it should 8 - 12 secs.

Windysurfer, (Gareth) put this up this information up last week. Have a read of this it explains what I think is wrong with your JX, and possible suggestions I have indicated to you. https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=63670" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks like its the glow plug relay that was making all the noise. Its number 60. I'm assuming they are not available from VW? Pt no is 171 911 261 E.

Hello,

Bought my glowplug relay from GSF, was £20 including VAT if memory serves me right, The 50amp fuse is just a flat piece of metal, think it was under 50p from VW

presuming you know how to 'bump start a vehicle'?

only ask as i have seen people bump starting cars and the person in the towed vehicle thinks they just have to steer the vehicle and it will start automatically!
