help re new fuel tank and cv joints

HI ladies and gents I hope you can help.

Before i take my camper in for a full under-body treatment i'm going to get the old fuel tank renewed first.

It looks like i can get one from either Just Kampers or GSF. The GSF is cheaper but i just wondered if any one had experience here re the quality I'm likely to get? Obviously i'd like to get the GSF one as it's going to save a few bob but if the JK one is better quality i'd go for that every time.

I also need to get new cv joints on my o/s rear drive and have the same scenario. GSF are cheaper but are JK better? AS Harry Hill Would say which is best (Fight......)

thing is GSF is a shop.. with 80-90 discount.. if the part is wrong , you take it back to the shop.
I have only ever had a poor part from GSF that was engine mounts, great quality .. just didn't fit.

As a side note....you could do with undersealing/painting the top of the new tank before it is fitted.
Hamerite is good or perhaps proper rubberized schultz underbody protection or similar.

HI guys thanks for the reply. I like GSF always get my discount without a quibble unlike JK which is always a nightmare. Great point re painting the tank top first. Didn't think of that. Is Hammerite waxoyl ok i have a 2.5 ltr pot at home. Not the spray the stuff you brush under the wheel arches. I was thinking of a coat of red oxide first?

GSF fuel tanks are made in the far east, they are grey in colour and fit perfectly.
There are some black tanks out there made by Klokerholm or something, and they are attrocious, don't buy a black fuel tank, the filler neck won't line up and they are generally too big for the hole for what it's meant to fit.
Remember they are only in transit primer so need to be painted or treated or you'lll be doing the job in the not too distant future.

We regularly have ill fitting, leaking black fuel tanks on our scrap pile, to look at them you would think that they were a good part, not so.

Red oxide primer plus waxoyl sounds fine......the tank shape does have a tendancy to hold water/salt, so painting..especially the top, is a wise move then your guy can spray from underneath as well.

Would agree on painting tank properly prior to fitting. Helped Ronsrecord fit his new one and we used hammerite - one of the few occasions where hammerite is probably best solution.

Thanks guys hopefully the tank will arrive at GSF tomorrow. Would any of you recommend that i replace the fuel sender at the same time? It is the original tank so i assume original fuel sender unit..

We didn't replace Rons with a new one, merely swapped them over. Up to you. I guess fitting a new one may avoid having to remove tank again if it fails but if yours is ok, i wouldn't worry too much.

but probably worth replacing seals for the sender and breather hose - and of course all the fuel hose if it hasn't been done.

Cheers guys i ordered a new seal for the sender in case and all the others so just a matter of fitting now. Sender is working ok so think i'll leave that as I've spend so much money on the van this month. MY nice mechanic said he'd hammerite/underseal the top of the tank and under the van where it goes for me.
