Brake pressure regulator

Post by Ken T25 Caravelle »

My brake pressure regulator has seized and is locking the rear wheels on braking. I have tried in vain to find a replacement - VW Heritage don't do them for my model (VW Caravelle 1985 T25). I see from a previous post that the part is obsolete. I don't want to have to scrap the vehicle for the sake of such a small part! Does anyone have any advice please of either where I can obtain a replacement, or if the existing regulator can be serviced in some way. My local mechanic thinks that a Vauxhall regular may be suitable as a replacement. Any ideas much appreciated. Many thanks.

The pressure regulator is on a little t piece with a bore and ball bearings inside that roll backwards and forwards hence restricting pressure to front or rear curcuit, should be able to remove and free off but failing that there must be a useable second hand one about somewhere :ok

i have good used ones hear.

although i would put money on the fact that it wont be your regulator causing the brakes to lock up!

when do they lock up on your van?

on my daily driver van i have removed the contents of the brake valve, AND put bigger cylinders on the rear and still they wont lock up.

they will only lock if you are pressing the pedal very hard, no weight in the van and doing a sensible speed!

its more likely to be a problem with the shoe/drum contact , usually dust.

who has told you the valve is seized? remove it and shake it, the ball should move.
