rear heater on the rocks..

Post by curlyboy »

Have recently done an aaz conversion, outside my house, throughout the grim weather(big mistake),presumed all previous coolant had drained from system by removing lower rad hose and engine hoses.Somehow coolant has frozen in pipes from rear heater(under rear seat).Put in antifreeze, bled system, with thermostat removed, rad gets hot, front heater warm, temp guage shows very low temp. How does the rear heater fit into the cooling system,is it just tee'd off the main rad pipes? Can i run it until the warm coolant thaws the rear heater pipes out?Is there a coolant diagram somewhere on the Wiki?
Hoping i havent killed the head.. :x

The rear heater also has a lever on the side which opens/closes the valve for the flow through it.
(For winter / summer settings according to the VW handbook)
So, a block of ice mimicking the valve in the closed position shouldn't really have done any damage to the rest of your cooling system
