Help Front stub axle (hub assembly)

Post by colinbaines »

Hi, everyone,
I thought I had a lot of wheel noise, and thought my front bearings were gone, rather busy at the moment, took van (1990 DG) to my local garage.
Apparently the o/s front hub has welded itself to the stub axle, and the whole hub assembly needs replacing.
£500 from VW !!!!
I don't have that sort of cash , I've looked on Jk and brickwerks, they don't sell them
- Does anyone have any helpful suggestions
Cheers,
Colin

Thanks for responses
and cheers, kevtherev for searching europe-wide!
It's not power steering or abs.
Does anyone know where I might get a secondhand one for a few less pounds?

Have you actually taken it apart and had a look yourself cos i think that unless its a 4x4 there's nothing to weld itself to anything and still be able to move, if its standard 2wd then its just a case of jack up, support on axel stand front wheel off grease cap off, caliper unbolted and hung up out the way, undo hubnut slide off washer then pull the whole disc assembly off including inner and outer bearings, i done a wheel bearing on the f/n/s of mine last week cost £20ish for the kit and took about an hour to do
I'm in my own lill world but its ok cos everyone here knows me !
