vw passat engine in a t25, engine running problem. HELP!!!!

Post by thebarn22 »

hi there i have bought a vw t25, it has a 1991/1992 vw passat engine in it. i was told it is a 2.0l but i think it is a 1.8. how can u tell the difference? the engine will start but a bit lumpy, but as soon as u rev it the engine struggles and cuts out! i think the CIS Injection unit (that controls the fuel injection to air flow)
might not be functioning properly. i have noticed the breather pips are not fitted correctly. will this effect the cis? if so does anyone know where i can get a diagram of the breather sytstem? also does the electronic fuel pump constanly work or does it stop when the engine is running? thanks very much for your time.

engine code and number is stamped on the block below number 3 I think, that will tell you what it is then you can check back to the original vehicle

hi mate if you post a pic I may be able to tell you what engine it is, I have a golf mk3 with az engine with 020 transmission and had problems finding out which engine it was. breather hoses can affect the running.

do you know if it is a mass air flow or carburettor model sounds like the problem lies there and if you've tested it in this way you have already confirmed the problem yourself mate.

if ecu isn't getting a signal from afm then it will stall when you try and rev it, either a wiring issue or afm faulty I'd say
9A is from corrado/golf/passat 1989-95 136bhp

You have a 2.0ltr 16V 9A corrado/passat with mechanical fuel injection (bosch) when you operate the fuel metering flap by hand the engine will rev?
What fuel pump do you have fitted?
Fuel filter been changed?

You can remove injectors and leave connected up. PLace each injetcor in a empty pop botttle (transparent) and slowly operate the flap. You should see the injectors work and inject fuel. This simple test will tell if injectors o.k

Also the ignition side of things on the 9a is ecu controlled. Is all this wired in correctly?
Are all connectors on and good connections.?
Good engine earth and ecu earth?
Do the basic checks of leads on in correct order, dizzy cap etc

The injection system will only need the tiniest bit of rusty "pooh" to get into it to cause headaches like this.
Is the tank in good condition (not full of rusty bits etc) this is common on t3's vans

Sorry for all the questions but need to know all details to offer more help. Good luck. :ok
