Hi all.
Ordered my first lot of conversion parts from Richard today. Christmas present to myself :D
Just waiting to have a building cleared out which is full of tractors, to put the van in and get started.
Hopefully it'll be allready for Plymouth volksfest at the end of May!
I'll keep you posted with some photo's when I get started..

I know what you saying BUT, I know it starts well and runs fine so I'm not gonna mess with it. it'll be less to rule out if I have any problems starting it or getting it to run properly.
Once its fitted and running Then I can do cam belt head gaskets ect. Maybe ass about face but thats the way I've decided to go :D

You will have plenty of room to do that. Easier in a VW than a Scooby.

Well so far its been easy I've only stripped out the subaru and took out the VW engine. I intend lifting the subaru engine into place this week.
As for costs I wouldn't say its cheap but I made it a bit cheaper for myself as I sold my original van and managed to pick up a cheaper one which freed up some cash and I've been selling bits off the subaru which has helped.

Got the engine up into place now , bolted to gearbox swinging on ropes!.
In the process of making an engine mounting bar, which is giving me a problem I'm not sure of the correct height to mount the engine, I measured the centre height of the crank on the VW before I took it out and assumed the Subaru crank would be at the same height BUT it looks like I may have to lower it a bit to be able to fit an induction pipe onto the throttle body. Any help here greatly appreciated.
Of course if I'd bought a RJES engine mount this wouldn't be a problem.
Here's a few pics for anyone interested.

Looks like you are making progress. To judge the height of the engine you are along the right lines to use the throttle body as a reference. Mine (although an EJ22 single cam) sits with the throttle body just below the level of the engine hatch. My conversion uses an RJES bell housing but with a Smallcar engine cradle which then sits on the VW engine bar which had to be moved back a few cms. This just allows enough room to fit and induction pipe without cutting away the back of the engine bay.
There's a picture in my garage if that helps. https://club8090.co.uk/forum/garage.php? ... ge_id=3008" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
NO PIES CAKES OR BEER LEFT IN THIS VAN OVERNIGHT.
