wiring advice, any experts? head light washers, fogs etc.

Post by manxman »

My headlight washers are not working so I'm looking for advice on what the problem might be and when/how they operate. (I'm guessing its every so many screen squirts)
Does anyone know the colours for the wiring, relay terminal numbers etc to make it easier for me to trace the fault. There are a few terminals behind the fuse box going nowhere.

I also have some front fogs and a heated rear window to wire in , if possible to original vw spec I've got a the relevent dash switches , and would like to know correct wire colours, fuse box terminals and relay position for those.

vehicle is a 1990 lhd syncro 16" doka.

thanks

re front fogs
there is a loom in place for the fogs with a relay and fuse.

the rear fog switch is three position, the middle being the front fog switch.
Adding a second switch above it allows indipendant operation.

I've got a switch, with 3 positions, can't remember what was there when I got the truck, I think there was just a 2 pos switch, there was wiring to the rear fog. thats working, and I wired up the other rear fog.

If there is a loom and relay in place for the front, what colour wires should i be looking for, what relay is it and where do the wires run to, behind the lower grille somewhere?

No
you fit the fogs, run suitable wiring to the new switch (available from VW) then wire the switch to your existing three position switch at terminal 83a.
relays, and power are already wired in at the factory for the front fogs. Might be prudent to wire in a 15a fuse in line after the switch

if you are grounding the fogs on the bumper then you only need one wire per lamp

tell you what pull out the three pos switch, click it to pos 2 and check for power at the terminal 83a

I however it's only two position you will need a bulb relay and a 15A fuse. and wire it to the fuse board to.... Relay No 7 on the relay plate (53 I think))
