Got a full width rear seat in the van. however the are studs on the side, that should slot into a recieving thingy to keep the back rigid

standard vw raer seat is a bit like a car one , there are bolts sticking out of the body shell to lock the rear seat.
only minibuses/caravelles / passenger carrying vans had the steel plates welded in for thes bolts to screw into
its possible i may have a pair of plates/bolts i will have a look and take a picture.

You can weld in seatbelt eye bolt plates from the likes of Demon Tweeks.
They are a simple steel plate with a captive nut welded on. I fitted a rear bench in my panel van, along with the same mounts in the rear quarter for Multivan rear belts. These were installed by using a hole saw to recess the nut in the panel and strengthening with stitch welds around the plate.
