1.6 D fuel screw - too much smoke

Post by sciroccotune »

HI Guys!

I had a really good day with the van today! The battery in my Rover 75 finally died and the van saved the day getting me to work and back - and I have finally got it running well (for a 1.6d)

My question is about the fuel screw, I adjusted it by ear after setting up the timing etc as per manual ( I have the tools so its spot on) but I get a little to much smoke which is black. So I assume that its a bit to much fuel and I need to turn down the fuel screw a bit.

So which way increases fuel and which way lowers it? I could experiment but as I'm so close to perfection I just wanted to check with the experts!

cheers

I think if you turn it clockwise you turn the fueling up - so you want anti clockwise.

Just mark where it is now with a scribe or tip ex. Then if im completely wrong it wont be hard to get it back to its current settings.

BTW, you dont have to turn it much... Try and 1/8 of a turn at once maybe?

Thanks Ringo, I will give that a go.

I'm just about to try a new battery in the Rover and if it doesn't work looks like I'll be vanning it tomorrow!

So if i dont get a chance tonight I'll do it at lunch time in the carpark at work
