Sliding door; seal & sill

Our sliding door got frozen up during "the big freeze" and when I tried to open it it pulled a length of the seal away from the sill, doh! The bodywork down there is a bit rusty and whilst the sill itself appears to be intact, there's nowt there to clip the seal back onto. So I'm wondering if this is the part that I need to fix onto the sill in order to fix the seal on? Unfortunately I can't seem to find it anywhere else apart from JK

Is this the right part that I need for the job? Has anybody else had this problem and how did you fix it?

Mines rusty there too, looks right, second picture is upside down? Looks not to bad to fit tho!

Yeah, one of the pics must be upside down, but I dunno which one. Do you think it'll need welding on James, or self-tapper or pop rivet perhaps?

I hope so, can't see it on their website though and I'm still waiting for the catalogue that they've posted out to me twice in the last week.

Have you got any more info about the Schofields "u" section, e.g. part number or price?

I have a catalogue but its sat on my tool box at work Best thing to do is ring them, they do a few panels that are not in the catalogue..

Yep, you were right Ian, Schofields do a "u" shaped channel for £8 and £10 courier, or they do the n/s outer sill for £25.

The guy I spoke to at Schofields said I'll need to glue the seal into the channel to keep it in place. Anybody know which glue will work for this?

Evo-Stik ... put it on the channel and the seal allow to go touch dry and press the two together ... make sure it's in the right place though Added bonus is that if it all goes Pete Tong you still have the solvent high to comfort you

Yep, now that I've had a better look at the job, it was the second pic that's upside down. It's that way up on the jk website as well.

So I got the "u" shaped channel from Schofields and have started prepping the job today. Here's a pic that I took before I started work, once I'd pulled the seal away from what was left of the existing channel:



I've removed all of the old channel now and cleaned-up the sill so my next question is, does the new channel need to be welded continuously along its length, or can I just tack it in a few places? Looks like the previous one wasn't welded continuously, but was fixed at approx 100mm intervals.

Yep! tacks every 100mm will do it,then just seal where it joins the sill, above and below the new channel with Sikaflex or tiger seal to keep moisture out.

For neatness I would drill it and puddle weld through, then seal as others have indicated
