'85 1900WB Starter Motor?

Post by mikec »

Drove the van this morning, stopped to drop something off, got back in and she didn't even crank. Lights come on on dash so there's some life in the battery.

Now we've been doing lots of short runs in the cold so she hasn't had much of a chance to warm up, and had to re-start her lots while she's cold. She did have problems starting last night and the engine did jump a bit (Loosening the earth strap maybe?) but my thought is the starter motor has gone.

So, I can't see the engine earth strap, where is it? LH Crankcase I'm told but...?
If this is OK and she still doesn't crank. Is it just the famous starter motor bush?
Do I need to be talking to GSF or am I likely to find a starter elsewhere?
How hard is changing the starter? I've done this on other cars but the T25 one looks tucked well out of the way and hard to reach.
Could it just be the battery?

Oh yeah, someone's tried to jump start us and a mechanic has tried a starter unit and the voltage doesn't drop at all.
And yep, we've rocked it in gear.

Any help welcome!

Thanks

Mike

Could just be the small signal wire come off, the spade terminal collects crud and rots off

Nope, the connection was good, checked that first :( Looks like a trip to GSF - way cheeper than all the local places are quoting.
