Oil Pressure Buzzer- could it be Fram filter
Hi Guys
The Oil Pressure buzzer is very annoying. If i change revs it goes away temporarily, I have read that Fram Oil Filters can be too blame. I looked today and mine definately has a Fram filter on. Has this happened to anyone else. I am having it serviced next week..

Ahh - the buzzer of doom! We just disconnected the sensor! That fettled it

Replace the Framm with a proper filter and see what happens ... if you really have got low oil pressure the tappets will empty and rattle like mad.
Try a search in the Techy page, there's loads on the 'DOPS' or 'Buzzer Of Doom' as it's called by it's 'fans'

I don't know what the part number it is, I will post a reply on Saturday when I get it off. What sort of research are you doing? Have already sorted a Mann-Hummel filter and along with a good dollop of Morris Oil, fingers crossed BOD will disappear. If not aaaarrrgggghhhhhh.

As you know, people often report oil pressure warnings at hot idle and such after changing filter types, and sometimes the warnings go away just by returning to the OEM filters. So I'm just collecting data when I have the chance to ask people who have experienced this, so I can look into the specs and characteristics of the filters that are involved in the nuisance warnings to see if I can get to the bottom of what is causing this. Also to know which filters are OK for my customers to use.
Knowing which model Fram you used would help, if you could find it out. Doesn't matter to me personally, I use a Trasko, but since I build engines for a living I have an interest in learning all I can. So thanks in advance!

Well I'll post the results for the filter on saturday. You refer to OEM filter, what does this stand for. You being more of an expert on this, are Mann-Hummel filters pretty good then. My buzzer definately goes off when the engine is hot (is this the norm) I don't get any rattling of the 'tappits' which I have been told is a tell tale sign of low oil pressure. What do you think?

O.E.M. = Original Equipment Manufacturer. In other words Mann manufacture and supply filters for VW which are branded as VW Audi Group, same as Bosch are oem.

It appears there is very little you do not know. A VW guru perhaps? I am learning all of the time, but not being hugely technical- I may have to go down the garage route. I feel happy that I am at least using the best replacement parts. Thanks

Right, Mann-Hummel is one of the "official" filter makers for VW, so they are an OEM (actually, I guess you could say since VW is the OEM, Mann is the OEM's OEM). Just whoever supplied what came with a new vehicle.
Oil pressure is lower when hot of course due to the oil losing viscosity (thinning ) when it's hot. But driving down the road, the engine is at higher rpms and so it's making good OP, but when you come off the gas after a highway run OP drops suddenly and that is when most people first get nuisance warnings.
Lifters may make noise with OP problems, but that is not a necessary condition. I see and read of lots of engines with OP problems that don't have a lot of tappet noise, but if OP gets really bad that is definitely more prevalent. The lifters don't use a lot of oil but they do need a steady and clean supply.
There must be a mountain of writing here about this topic, god knows you couldn't swing a cat in most VW forums and not hit an OP thread.
Stick with the Mann filters, you can't go wrong there. The number you want is 719/12.

Its as if you were describing my van- it takes exactly 25 mins and then the BOD starts, you have also clearly explained the reasons for it. I'm glad I have the correct filter too. The previous owners have done very little mileage in the last 3 yrs (they were in their 70's) and said that the van hadn't been properly serviced in the last three yrs. I am hoping that the oil is old and has lost its viscosity and coupled with the filter will sort me out.
Ermie also advised me to have the compression tested too- which I have arranged.
