Gas Struts no Westy Poptop..

Post by syncroand101 »

Anyone done this? LIke the gas struts you get on a Reimo popper, except on the Westy poptop, as an additional helper when lifting and lowering..?

Has been on my list for a while, wondered if anyone has seen it done?

I've got one of this guys Kits.
It cost $110 in total to get to the uK in Oct 2008. Dunno what he's charging now.

I've got the Heavy Duty set which is great for roof box and 2 boards. However, without this on top - it's hard to get it to sit properly closed on the hinges. So I remove them when not loaded.

He can also get a Medium Duty set - so if we're doing a bulk order, I'd be in for just a set of Medium shocks as these would be better to swap on when not fully loaded.

I would prefer something that mounts like the VW ones did, save drilling holes in the roof.

Surely you'll be drilling holes anyway to fit rack mount brackets etc?
As otherwise what's the point with helper struts in the first place (unless you're thinking of helpting the women out when they go camping in the van without you - or you haven't been eating enough spinach to lift an unloaded pop-top..... :rofl )
