Oil Pressure Buzzer

Post by northantsandy »

Bought my first van today

Previous owner told me about the Oil pressure buzzer, that occassionally goes off. They told me not to be alarmed. The advice given was to dip the clutch or reduce the revs and it will go away- which it does. Is this ok? How do I stop it coming on in the first place?

The other problem is trying to get the heaters to work on command. They come on intermittently. The blower control knob isnt working (I was told). The top of the three sliders that control the heaters, when I slide it to the far right it makes the clocks light to go out- do I have some crossed wires.

Thanks in advance.

hehe welcome to the world of vw ownership!

Quirky things, aren't they!!

oil pressure - read DOWPS in the wiki - explains how the system works. You may need a new sensor or thicker oil - that often shuts them up (and they don't like semi -synthetic oil - I have been advised to stick a good quality mineral oil in mine.

heater controls - turn your dash lights on and off....interesting....not heard that before....maybe catching a wire...??

bit worrying that you cannot get an even temp from heater. you should. put all controls to right,....you should get warm air from the dash.

What is the needle doing? A bit of fluctuation is ok, particularly up/down hills....but on flat is should remain steady. May have an air lock, and need a little bleeding.

Does the little red light flash and then stop when you start up? If so, it will tell you when water level is low, and needle will tell you if it is getting hot.

Bet you had a huge smile though!

My smile was huge all the way home. My daughter was counting the number of people who were staring at us , she got bored at 100.

Yes red light flashes and then stops when we start. The rest of your advice I will have to look at tomorrow in the daylight.

Take care Emm.

Emm the needle you on about is that the speedometer- which is all over the place- fluctuates a bit.

The needle is the temp needle, which on mine sits right in the middle except on steep hills on warm days when it goes up to 2/3 rds.. :ok Mark
