2.4 diesel economy?

Post by meggles »

Just a quick question, maybe better in Tech but I don't know really. What mpg, and top speed (without hammering it) could I expect from a 2.4 diesel van. No need to take into account the weight of interior fittings. Just a rough idea of town and long distance travel would be great. Thanks.
Also, are they a decent engine? It's a non turbo by the way.

eyup keith, H.N.Y. to you and best wishes to you in your present turmoil...wig
re; 2.4, I've run two 2.4 t4s before my present 2.5tdi and tho they wer'nt the rocket ship the 2.5 is, they served me famous, one had 100k on and the other an ex john smith's service van had 182k when I sold them, niether cost me anything more than regular servicing (oh 1 rear wheel bearing and 1 heater matrix) which had nuthing to do with the milage I dont feel. I always run with a part fitted out bus and they would cruise at 70-80mph and if at 50-60mph returned between 35-39mpg depending on the usual circumstances. I don't feel there is anything to choose between a well serviced 2.4 v 1.9tdi in fact I think the 2.4 probably held on longer(more bottom end) than my 2.5 does. are you moving to the dark side? :(

We find we get about 32mpg whatever we do to it - round town, 56mph or 70mph - doesn't seem to matter.

Basic tintop to convert from scratch. Relatively rust free!! Don't need a turbo, I'm not too bothered about top speed, more the economy. I'm a Yorkshireman remember! :) Probs put a pop top on it though. I know a man who's done one on a T25. Don't I welly?
