sliding door problem

Post by Garry Bray »

I have an autohomes kamper and just recently the sliding door has started to jump open even when locked.
This has happened when on the move and is quite scary.
Has anybody else experienced this ?

hi,

mine hasnt jumped open while driving but it did have a period when it wasnt shutting properly. had a look at the latch at the rear end of the door and the screws had become a bit loose. I tightened them up and greased the catch ad it seemed to sort the problem.
83 2ltr Air-Cooled Autohomes Kamper. Kamper roof died. Fitted an original Westy Pop-top.

it's a common problem especially with the later may84 on shells the rear latch can spread, maybe loose and misaligned and or a combination of same, read the manual /wiki etc on sliding door, you need to pull the rear of the door out to get proper access and have a box or axle stand to support the door, it's pretty straightforward really

Have a look at this on the Brickyard:-

It's about repairing the lock.

I don't want to type it all again.
