splutter splutter
Hello hello, another problem with my 2l AC
Occasionally I am loosing a lot of power, especially going up hill, feels like the fuel isn't getting through properly, it will suddenly loose power, and unless i pull off the accelerator it splutters and jerks a lot! Sometimes going up a hill it will quickly go from 60 down to 40, a couple of times its gone all the way down to 20. Changing down the gears makes very little difference. It has also happened on the flat and downhill, and sometimes it doesn't happen even when going up hill. I has happened since I ran out of fuel a couple of days ago (fuel gauge doesn't work, and I misjudged the amount I had left!) so my guess is debris from the bottom of the tank has gone round the system and is causing a blockage. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. If it is stuff in the fuel lines, should I just systematically check through the system, starting at the tank or what?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Billy.

Re: splutter splutter
try your fuel filter(s) if they are clear try blowing down the fuel lines to make sure they are free obviously remove your fuel cap first if you are going to use an air line.
You can say alot of of things with "ar"

Re: splutter splutter
There is also fuel filters in the carbs - I am pretty sure it's in the wiki
the other this to consider if you rule out filters is (fairly common issue) blocked breather boxes which sit up under the front wheel arches right in the firing line of anything coming off the the front wheels - if air cant get into the tank then petrol cant get out.....

It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!

Re: splutter splutter
Cheers for the advice chaps! I've yet to find time to have a proper look, but today it would not start (absolutely nothing on the key turn), I gave the fuel pump and filter a little wiggle and it started up fine. The fuel filter only has a little puddle of petrol in it, should there be more? The level is well below the in and out pipes.
Cheers,
Billy.

Re: splutter splutter
change it
there should only be one visible filter.. and that lives next to the tank

Re: splutter splutter
it is definitely a gentle lose of power and not a clunking meaning that the cv joints are on their way out isn't it?

Thanks clartsonly, but it is definitely loss of power yeah, I had to go up a hill in 1st today at about 5/10mph (can usually do it in 3rd at about 30mph).
out of interest which filter did you think I was referring to, because i probably don't know where it is! Cheers.
