Hi
maybe a bit of a silly question, but I've just got back home after a drive round in the snow and had to back onto the drive quite heavy footed. When I got out I could smell a rubber burning sort of smell (definately not tyres ) but I'm wondering if it could be signs of a poorly VC having been under quite a load to get me parked ? Everything seemed to be working fine and drove as well as ever, no smell in the van at all, just round the back by the wheels. Hopefully I'm making something out of nothing, but would a VC make a rubbery smell ?
Hope this makes sense, cheers for any clues.
Andi
Cheers but it didn't smell like a clutch, if you know what I mean... and I had a new one about 3000 miles ago so I'm thinking it's not that
I guess it could be just a general "very hot" sort of smell from the fact it's so flipping cold out there..

Cheers for the suggestions, I'm thinking that syncrodoug's idea of a frozen handbrake sounds a likely cause, possibly just on one side and hence the extra boot needed to get on the drive. That coupled with Peasants comment and I'm not as worried as I was..
I'm off out again tomorrow morning so I'll see how everything seems then, got a good foot of snow at the moment and it's still coming down so not a good time for anything to go wrong...
Slipping fan belt, i had the same smell the other day when i parked the van up.
Belt was loose so i tightened it, not been able to tell if it was that as the old man is using the van at the moment.
The slat/slush will be giving off a smell as its drying/evaporating off the zorsts... but worth having a check around to make sure nothing amiss.. VC wont smell as its in the front diff...
Drive a short distance up the road and go feel around the brakes.. carefull in case it is hot... Couldnt pop over untill next weekend now..
