new lock barrels question...

Hi all,
Got a couple of lock barrel issues on my van, wear and general vagueness in the operation of 2 of them, does anyone know if new lock barrel sets are available seperately? or would it be a case of buying the door handles and sliding door handle as well? i'd like to keep all the locks on the outside working from the same key if poss, even if it's different to the ign. key.

I managed to get my locks all working on one key. Did take a bit of time but well worth it.

If all your locks are original, I'd first get a new key cut from the original barrel number (guy on ebay does them) then pick up a few second hand locks to rob for bits and with each barrel in turn and using the new key, put the brass pins (forget the correct name) in the right order so they sit flush with the key in. Did that with mine on all the locks (some filing required) and it works a treat now. Alternative is to buy new ones but they're not cheap (also on ebay).

Be nice if I could find a supplier for the brass pins though.

If those breaking em were to just pull them old locks out and put them to one side it would be useful

I've got quite a few but what I have found is the handles/housings wear so re-tumbling the lock itself only makes the operation marginally better. I've tried to improve mine with minimal sucess.....new handles etc is the only way you're gonna get nice glitche free smooth lock operation I'm afraid.
As for just getting all to work on one key.........you can always pop round mine with lock in hand.......

Hi, on one of my door handles, the fork bit pointing up broke off.



If I get a new handle, can I take the key barrel out of this broken handle and replace it in the new handle, or is this fork bit part of the barrel?

Agreed. My cab doors would open with any key of any length. I took the handles off to check the barrels and found the barrel bore on the handle had deep scores in it. The only solution was new handles with barrels that I then keyed to my original key.

The price has increased considerably since I got them but they are genuine unlike JK's cheap chinese knock-offs

some new ones about seem to have a slightly different key type that dose not work with the original locks!
i have had a few JK door handles that habve a key that will not fit the original lock , but this may not be just JK


i have sussesfully rebuilt lots of locks /lock sets , but you tend to go through a few lock bodies just to find some good ones!

just as a thought who lubricates there locks on a monthy basis? a squirt of wd40 goes a long way to keeping locks from wearing / seizing!
