and Another Interior Refit - Update - 03/04/2010

Having just read the thread "Another Interior Refit" (https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=56991" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) I decided to document my interior refit. Got some nice ideas from the above thread but I'm not sure it'll look exactly the same!!

Any comments or tips will be gratefully received!

Removing the units and the bed




There was an awful lot of unused cables...


Units removed, time for the panels and the bed from the Westfalia high top.



After removing the panels and the bed turns out it used to have twin doors and rear windows so must have been a mini bus?





The roof air vent and windows are both leaky so next stage is to reseat them and make sure it's all dry inside. The are some holes in the floor from the previous built so I think they'll need some anti rust treatment before laying a new floor.

That's all for now I suppose, i'll update more as we carry on the build.

It took two of us about 4-5 hours to get to that stage and it's going to take a lot more to get it finished. Hope to be finished by March or April time.

Aah makes sense about the back. It definitely had a second door though as that panel is blue!

I hope you're not laughing at my Westfalia sticker..

I'd love to know that Lloyd. I'd also quite like to know what her job was before her conversion. She had a 1.6d in when I got her so nothing fast!!

Did some more work this weekend (last weekend was far too cold to be outside!).

First up my new sink,


We removed the stupid roof bars (if you want them by the way you can have them!), front skylight and the roof vent. All were leaky and had been badly fitted. I've decided to get a new roof vent but not sure what to go for yet, the hole is 430x430.




We then replaced the front skylight. We had to trim it a little to make it fit snugly into the gasket and we finished off with a little guttering mastic stuff.


and that's it for now, next up is to purchase a roof vent and test the roof for leaks and then onto the rust and flooring.

Got some more work done today. We fitted a new roof vent from Fiamma. Started by creating a wooden frame to make it more solid and then screwed the vent into place using a tube of Sikaflex along to way. We then hosed the roof down (after letting it dry!) to test for leaks. The roof vent is spot on but found a couple of other little leaks at the rear of the van, i'd been wondering why my pillow was damp on a couple of occasions last year....





I've ordered some new panels and a Bluebird RnR bed so once the leaks are plugged and the interior paint work is finished we'll get on and install those. We're going to insulate it with sound deadening board, roof insulation (the really thin stuff) and then seal it with plastic sheeting.

So it's been a while since my last update so here goes with the last month or so....

First off I had to remove glue and vinyl from the interior paintwork, rub it down and then fill some holes and smooth it down.




I then emplyed a very friendly local man to come in and paint the interior metal work. It now looks much nicer than the old vinyl.





All the cavities in the panels and roof have now been filled with sound deadening board and roof insulation. There was none before so hopefully it'll be a bit warmer now!!



and finally yesterday (with the help of a friend) we got the RNR bed installed.

Looking good, not many folks go to the effort of having the interior painted but it will make all the difference. Oh like the look of the MK 1 Escort too..

what make and model is your SS combi Sink/Hob? Mine (Plastimo) has separate round pan supports whereas yours has a single rectangular type which is better. I could do with changing mine (the pans slide off too easily!) and the one fitted to yours may be available as a spares item. Also appreciate it if you could give me an approx size of the wire frame (length - width) that the pans rest on.

It's a 07-917 - Smev 2 Burner Combination from rainbow conversions. Not surenon the dimensions but I'll measure it tomorrow and let you know.

The MK1 escort is nice isn't it, he's got an Astra GTE engine ready to go in and all the suspension has all been upgraded. Another £10k and a lot of time and he recons it'll be sorted.
