Looks like its a goner.... : ( SOLVED!

Post by si macc »

I've very recently had some coolant issues on my 1.6TD JX (its been using loads) and I have just inspected the under the engine and noticed there is water coming from a small hole on the underside of the engine (which I'm assuming is the head gasket?). I've checked the coolant tanks and oil and there appear to be no oil in the water and vice versa, and there is no emulsified oil on the oil cap. The engine runs fine, no loss of power, funny noises.

So basically is my engine buggered?

Any advice on what my options are would be GREATLY appreciated!!

:(

E D I T - I think someone on brickyard has pointed me in the right direction - the coolant is leaking from the core plugs.

change the core plug then ;)

it might be worth doing a pressure test though first as if the core plug is leaking because of a leaking head gasket putting too much pressure in the water system then replacing the core plug will simply make the leak come from somewhere else.

are your water pipes hard when the engine is running?
