tdi wiring
just some advise if your thinking of fitting a tdi lump but worried about the fly by wire setup, do it!
drove the car into the garage complete, then
managed to remove engine and rewire to allow it to run on the floor in about 8hrs yesterday , not bad for my first attempt!
had to strip the dash ect out of the interior so i could pull the loom complete.
be simple to shorten/lengthen the loom to suit a van
so if i was going to fit one to a van converting to mechanical pump would seem a waste of time considering the time it took to remove.
plugged her up on the floor , connected battery and she started without waiting for the glow plugs , although it did seem weird reving it up on a variable resistor!

Nice one!
I take it you just keep the part of the loom thats connected to the engine and the ECU? Do you need the ignition barrel too?

Re: tdi wiring
i used it cos i took it out , but the receiver pops off the barrel and i compared it to a t25 one , looks like it will clip onto a t25 one no prob!
the seat one has the coloum switch fixing screws in a different place tho so no good for t25 unless you change the switch gear , ok if you were fitting a smaller steering wheel!

Apart from no electrics to get water into with mechanical pumpbilly739 wrote: so if i was going to fit one to a van converting to mechanical pump would seem a waste of time considering the time it took to remove.
Big mpg difference between electronic and mechanical, mechanical goes several more miles on a gallon of diesel.
Mechanical one has much better usable rev range, very important with poor gearing of these vans.
Turbo can be changed without pissing off ecu

Re: tdi wiring
Glow plugs? What are they for I just use them as fillers with a mechanical pump. Just put the key in and it starts, below 0deg or not.

Re: tdi wiring
andy you said that mtdi is better on fuel. is that a miss print and did you mean it the other way around.
thinking of going aaz as i dont want the electrical hassle but is a mdti that big a step up from an aaz and do you loose a lot of power / torque the latter being of importance to me.

Re: tdi wiring
no mis print, i know it does not make any sense but mechanical ones are always much better on fuel, i think bosch/volkswagen were looking more at emmisions than economy with the electonic tdi...lee.. wrote:andy you said that mtdi is better on fuel. is that a miss print and did you mean it the other way around.

Re: tdi wiring
Is it right that a mech pump to replace the TDi one would cost a fortune ? or is there a cheap alternative ?
