I am thinking of buying a 1.9 DG transporter 85. I have only ever owned petrol T3's so I have no idea what the diesel engins are like.
What exactly does the G in DG stand for anyway? I am guessing it will be very sluggish compared to my old 1.9 boxer engine. Are there any performance upgrades for these engines?
Would like some feedback on this engine, thanks folks.

Re: 1.9 DG
OK there is only one DG, so your old boxer could have been the same if it were a carbed watercooled. (unless it were a DF)
What engine was your old Boxer?
upgrade..?
hell yeah!
2.1 with or without injection, same everything, but shorter 112 pistons and a longer stroke crank with higher compression
112 BHP nuff said.

Hi,
DG is about 80hp whereas the 1.9 DF with smaller carb and less guts is about 60, my dg has a recent engine and is not at all sluggish, personally i like it but would be better wit LPG conversion as a bit thirsty. Very easy to work on yourself and most parts ok to find except some coolant hoses - but these can be made up from specialist suppliers like hoseworld.co.uk

Is there some confusion here ?
Just for the record, a DG is a 1.9 water cooled boxer petrol engine

As for performance add ons = not many folks bother as they are OK as they are and adding more power starts to affect mechanical reliability quite quickly (imho of course

The 2.1 is more powerful as has been said above, esp the injection ones.
I am happy with my good nick DG though.
It cruises at the legal limit with ease, runs on LPG and gives me around 22 mpg average @ 51 p per Litre

Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here
Re: 1.9 DG
Yes I'm officially a tit! I was talking to my so called mechanic friend who said yeh DG that'll be a deisel then, I didn't realise until I read my old van was a DF, What a turnip! Thanks for the tips anyways.

I am quite content with my DF you just need to do roundabouts at 50mph to stay in front of the mopeds
