Novice with windsreen wiper problems..

Post by snowythebudgie »

Sorry but I'm a complete novice with electrics and my windscreen wipers packed in today and perhaps I can get some help diagnosing the problem. I put the wipers on in the freezing cold and they moved a tiny amount before stopping. Now I have absolutely nothing when I put the wiper into any of the three speed positions. Also my screen wash does nothing and makes no noise although this was fine yesterday as well. My questions is are they on the same circuit and is anything else on that circuit to see if its an electrical problem?? Is it likely to be anything else considering the wash went at the same time as the wipers? My van is a 1986 1.6TD and I'd like to get these wipers sorted before Christmas so that I can make it to Scotland..!

Thanks in advance for any help.
Snowy

Have you replaced the fuse?

I just wondered if someone could tell me what was on the same circuit as the wipers. If its everything thats gone then of course I'll find the fuse and replace it. Cheers.

I can 99% guarantee its the fuse. It will be a lot easier to replace it than trying to figure out what else runs of that circuit. I'm not too familiar with the wiring on your model so can't say what else runs on that circuit but if your wipers were frozen to the screen when operated then chances are the wiper motor overloaded and blew the fuse.

Hello -
Wipers and washers seem to be on same circuit - in both early and late Type 3's.
Check out -

http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/VehicleSpec ... /fuses.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Check Fuse first. Good connection on fuse holder? Clean? Tight? Then can start to work through the other possibilities - switch? relay? is power reaching wipers/washer bottle?

Good luck.

My wife did the same thing this morning in her land rover. Fuse blew, make sure that you replace it with the same rated one I think it's a 10amp one but cheak first.

Good luck neil

Don't do this with Puntos, according to a recovery driver we met if the rear wiper is frozen and you hit the wiper switch it trips out the injun management puter and it needs to be reset by Mr Fiart £££££££££££.

In some cases the blower is also on the same circuit as the wipers, hence if blower seizes, it pops fuse and takes out wipers - does on my 85 model anyway
