front and rear diffs

Post by dave friday »

evening all,i just did this check to see if my front and rear diffs have the same ratio [ i suspect they are not!], i jacked one front wheel up and turned the diff input flange 2.625 revolutions for 1 revolution of the wheel. using the same method for rear wheel the ratio came out as 2.75 to 1 revolution [ of the rear wheel ].
comments/suggestions please ta.

yes the propshaft is off,the gear box has been re-built [ before i bought the van ] and i wondered if a different ratio diff was fitted [ so thats why i did the checks], i will post with the front diff and gear box codes tomorrow.

You would soon know if you had different ratios by fitting the prop :rofl

It should probably be mentioned (in case you dont know) that this is a really bad idea!

the reason for the 2 and a bit is because one wheel is/was on the ground and need to be x2 for the correct reading?,the front diff code is : adm 44020 the speedo and mileometer read far too high as well,i will look for the gearbox code tomorrow [a bit cold n dark now!!].

well the gearbox code is ahf !! so they should be the same ratio [38;7 =54;43 ] i will check again with both wheels off the ground and the diff lock on.
