Electronic Power Steering
I just had EPS fitted by VWSUB. What a difference. I have been waiting for this experience soon after I got the van and my wife's recent back operation made this even more of an imperative as on shorter journeys I had become the only driver. Now we are both back in the driving seat and what a place to be. I used to feel every lump and bump in the road apart from the usual heavy and lumbering manoeuvring. Now there is a silky smooth sensation and it feels like driving a modern car. The ride and handling both feel different and I feel I can enjoy the van rather than working out in it. Motorway driving has become effortless, particularly in those more blustery moments when you feel like you’re fighting with the van to keep it on an even keel (high top). The fitting looks seamless and apart from the motor on the side of the column, you wouldn’t know it was there. This van is definitely a keeper!

Re: Electronic Power Steering
I am also intrigued, on how fitting a PAS can improve the handling.
Its usually the suspension that does that.
Does not add up to me.
But as long as you are happy that what matters

Re: Electronic Power Steering
Hello hello,
We are going to fit one of those as well, buying it from http://www.ultimate-engineering.co.uk/index.html
We will gonna pick it up on the 24th when we are going to Llangollen and maybe with some help we will have fitted it then during the holiday.
I really need the powersteering, as I still loose grip in my hands.
So this makes me very happy to hear.
Greetings from Robert

The steering we supply might be £200 cheaper but it is totally different from any on the market however you have the right to choose.

Re: Electronic Power Steering
Hello Trudi,
Thank you for your comment. When I met you folks at Vanfest, I couldnt see any powersteering, because I would have seen that, or at least, one my friend would have seen it. We found there two other companies who told us they have or were developing a power steering.
I asked them about the prices and they told me, 600 pounds, and 400 pounds. Well 200 pounds is a lot of money. Especially when you are dutch and live with the euro.
Anyway, at that moment I decided that the only option was the one from Ultimate Engineering. And at this moment it still is.
Why? Because I can afford 400 pounds, but not 600 pounds, and my artritis let me no time to get more money somewhere in the future.
Is the one from you better then the one from Ultimate Engineering? I really dont know. And I hope not. Because that would make me sad. You can understand that.
For the ones who would like to chose here are both links
http://www.vwsub.webeden.co.uk/#/hercul ... 4537028074
http://www.ultimate-engineering.co.uk/p ... ering.html
As I am not a technician, I cant see much difference, so I let this for the ones who are.
Hopefully I do have so much money that in the future I can afford to look for the best and not only the price. If so, you folks will be one of the companies I will visit with my van.
Thank you again for your comments.

Re: Electronic Power Steering
Thanks Robert for your comments, the steering was on the yellow bus at vanfest it was on a customers van but we was not selling them at that stage as we wanted to feel the market first.
Our steering is very different from any on the market and if you read our website this will be very apparent.
Also all parts used are of the highest standard and great care and time has been taken to produce a steering like new.
We no for a fact that you need to spend £400.00 on building a unit to our standards that’s why we are confident to give a 12 month guarantee.
We take a lot of pride in our work and refuse to get something out of a breakers yard and sell it on that’s not our style.
We believe in doing the job as good as you can and not to cut a corner that’s why all our parts are laser cut and all units we use are fully rebuilt as new.
I hope the customer who posted this can comment on what I have said as quality is the main priority in all our work.

Re: Electronic Power Steering
Hello Trudi,
Like before, I am not doubting your product. Better said, it can be true all the way, but never the less, there will be people like me, who just cant afford those 200 pounds extra. And maybe yes, it will come a day where I can afford it. But, on the other hand, I could be satisfied with what I can buy for 400 pounds. I dont know now, but I will find out very soon.
And not everyone can afford those 200 pounds extra. Like hifi, there is Hifi and Hifi!!! I cant and will not judge about it.
And I just cant wait untill I can afford those 200 pounds at this moment and cant wait untill I can. If I ever can.
So, there will be some customers for your product and some for the product I will buy now.
Thank you and greetings from Robert

Re: Electronic Power Steering
So do we know anyone who has fitted the ultimate engineering setup?
I thought there was an issue with non oem columns not breaking like they should in an impact?

Re: Electronic Power Steering
I have spoke to Tim @ultimate engineering, and plan to have mine fitted in March of 2010.

Got a wedgey and proud
Re: Electronic Power Steering
The one obvious difference between the vw sub kit and the one from ultimate-engineering apart form the lower price is that the ultimate engineering kit also has automatic adjustment to the assistance of the steering at various vehicle road speeds.
Bad dragon, I don't think you will be disappointed with your decision to buy your kit from ultimate engineering. It is a well tried and tested kit and offers excellent value for money and includes laser cut brackets.
