Missing bits - Aircooled 2l

Post by very_bland »

Sorry, still haven't got my manual....

Looking down into the engine bay, then to the right to where the air flow comes down from the side vents, I have a bit of plastic corrugated tubing, about half a foot in length zip-tied in that space.... looking around I found a hole of the same girth... done a bit of hunting and found this pic confirming my suspicion ....

Is it really really bad that I don't have that? I drove up to Coventry and back (260 odd mile trip) and there were no overheating troubles.
Should I stop driving it till I get that tube in?

Also what are these? They aren't there either

Where the top one of those should be, there is a white, clean bit where it obviously USED to be! :?

Cheers,
Billy.

Hi very bland,

can't answer your question on the pipe, as I am not sure exaclty what you are referring to (its a bit early!!)

Your picture with the 2 bits circled...If you mean the circled part with the two black cables going into it...that is the igntion stabilisation unit - regularly known to fail, and perfecty drivable with the two wires connected into each other. That is a recommended fix to try if the bus won't idle properly. I think the other part (the wide one with single cable) is the ignition control unit - and I don't think it will run without that one at all.

hope this helps

Sounds like the air inlet pipe for the air filter is missing, not essential but it is designed to draw in cool air from the air vents, cooler air is more dense giving better combustion.

As ermie says the circled parts are the ignition amplifier and the idling stabiliser, If they are missing possibly the distributor has been changed to an 009 which uses points ignition.

Mines was missing the cold air feed pipe too, went a bit better and got a few more miles to the gallon once i sorted it.

Right, ok, all fine then! I'll get the air inlet pipe asap, and not worry in between!

Cheers all!
