Re: Electric P.A.S.
This is quite upsetting, thought us VW nuts were meant to stick togeather.
Anyways i just wanted to add my 10p, since i feel i can comment on this topic.
I'm one of Barrys customers, he fitted a 2.5 Subaru engine into my T25 Carravelle, and done a fantastic job.
But i also have one of his powersteering units, which i fitted my self, and for the money i am very impressed. Everything feels well made, all the parts have been well designed. It does exactly what i wanted it todo, add that one thing that was missing from making my T25 a pleasure to drive, and it has, nice light steering with a great feel to it.
Now even tho there are some valid points in terms of the safety of the powersteering and there designs, its not really somthing that concerns me as much as the fact that when driving my vehicle, my legs are a foot away from the front of the vehicle! Its seems that driving a 30 year old vehicle, at speed higher than they were ever designed to do, and fitting powerful Subaru engines is'nt much of a concern on here, but a small part of the steering column, which lets face it, ain't gonna help in a motorway accident! IMO of cause, as of cause safety and reliablity are a key feature in any product design.
Best thing to do, would be to get some vehciles togeather, fit each different type of powersteering, and do a review of each, simple and straight to the point.
More than happy with all the work vwsub has done for me, will always recomend there services.
( Some might have seen my bus at Vanfest, was the yellow one with the 50" Plasma in the back playing a DVD

Is more down to, will the insurance pay out, as you have (in essence) taken out a safety feature.
Any high speed crash you die, 20 year old van or 1 day old Volvo.
PS
We are only just hit 30 years old for the first T25s, mine is a young 18 year old

Re: Electric P.A.S.
Hmmm. Even Ecclesiastical Insurance (there is such a company!) won't bring you back from the dead. Think on it. Maybe their slogan should be "Pray to god that you don't have an accident"
Yes yes, I know that some of us are trying to earn a crust and cultivate our own little furrow as the stock market has shafted any pension we may have built up, but please give yourselves a fighting chance in your old heap when doing shopping for trinkets.
VW spent millions of DM developing them with the best technology that they had at their disposal back in the 70's. Don't dismiss it lightly.
These are old wagons, sorry wagens and as many have observed - just how much rust is hidden away up front or elsewhere?
Be careful out there people.
PS What's wrong with a decent set of biceps? You need the lats and pecs to go with them, mind!

Re: Electric P.A.S.
I copped o.k with the original steering, but with 225/40/18 on the front, it was'nt easy.
Its just made it so much easier to drive, and comfortable
I understand what your all saying, but its just like why we change engines in these bus's, so we don't have to go up hills at 40mph with trucks overtaking us
