1.6 deisel poping out of second

hi, i have a mate asking on msn why his 1.6 derv t25 keeps poping out of 2nd gear, all other gears are ok its just second.

i suggested linkage bushes? could this cause it if there worn? or incorectly adjusted linkage. or is it more likely a gearbox problem?

5 speed ?
it's knackered pinion bearing most likely, drop the oil and see how thick the magnet is with paste, little finger size it's worn

I've got a similar problem with my 1600 diesel, it keeps popping out of third. Again all the other gears are fine, the biting point is extremely high, dont know whether this is significant
Any suggestions? Cheers
