T25 dipstick length

Post by T+T »

Hi, we're still having dipstick problems!! I was just wondering if anyone knows the length of a t25 dipstick (situated behind the rear reg plate) ie. length and distances from bottom to notches and between the notches. We still havnt found a replacement so are going to try and "do it ourselves" lol
Thanks

This is the age old problem lol, weve had an engine replacement so we now have a 1994 passat 1.9 turbo diesel but I thought the dipstick behind the rear reg plate would b the original, am I wrong?

Update on the dipstick saga......

We have now learnt that the dipstick we had behind the reg plate isn't in fact the original. Instead of being long on metal and fitting at the top of the gap behind the reg plate it was in the oil tube itself on the right hand side. To be honest I am completely comfused and could do with any advice anyone has!! Does anyone else have a dipstick in the same place, or does anyone know what dipstick that would have been??

a photo or two would help a lot
basically if fitting a 1.9 the original t25 dipstick from the 1.6 can be fitted to the block but has to be recalibrated as the block is deeper this is done by adding 3.5 litres of fresh oil inc the filter to the engine running it and marking the stick once it has settled again this is empty, add another litre this is full level mark stick accordingly and keep between the marks
too much oil can be an issue esp on corners I believe with td engines
I may be wrong about this as I don't do diesel but fro some reason those that know aren't posting a reply for you.
Hopefully whoever fitted the engine has fitted some sort of dipstick and calibrated it accordingly.
Better still take it to somewhere like brickwerks who know what's what with mod engines in T3

Brilliant, thanks loads for the reply. I'll take some photos and put them up this afternoon. We do have a dipstick that we could cut down so we could easily replace the oil and cut the dipstick accordingly. If you're not sure of the levels exactly I'd need to make sure, What is brickwerks? lol I've never heard of them!! Thanks again for your help

I think its 4.5 litres of oil with filter not 3.5.

Best bet is to try and find the engine code

3.5 with filter mark once then add another litre mark again, that's 4.5 litres, you could use 4 and add a half, as I say I don't do diesel
