Re: fitting central locking
Hi
I didn't do a T25, but did fit into my old scirocco, quite easy really, once you get the door card off, get all the bits in front of you, it should make a bit more sense. I had to cut a 40mm hole in the door frame to physically get the solenoid in situ, that was the most daunting bit and you may not need to do it on a T25. If you do, get a nice sharp hole cutter for your drill with a short pilot bit. I have seen people pilot drill through the outer door skin!! don't forget to paint any bare metal edges you make, and make sure your polythene door liners are fixed back properly.
I took about 2-3 hours on the first door and mounting the control box, 2nd door took half an hour.
And yes, I will do my T25 when I get the thing on the road. The kit worked well. won't do the slider though, but thats not a problem for me.

My only toy now is a broken T25 and a sack full of BMX bikes. How the mighty have fallen (or got sensibler!!)

Re: fitting central locking
Did mine with an off-the-shelf kit and as mentioned, its self explanatory really. Sorting suitable mounting points is what takes the time. Still haven't got over the luxury of a bolt-on electric window winder. What a joy THAT is. Being able to control passenger side without having to pull over!

Re: fitting central locking
Yup I fitted central locking to my 72 bug and wired it to operate through the alarm fob. As everyone else has said it's pretty self explanitory once you start.

I cant imagine you bought a kit Ralph so how did you do it?CovKid wrote:Did mine with an off-the-shelf kit and as mentioned, its self explanatory really. Also been thinking of fitting remote locking, is it poss to make the locking run off the same fob as the alarm imobiliser?

Re: fitting central locking
If you want a lock on sliding door, you need a door contact remember.

Re: fitting central locking
am thinkin about doin this meself too. is it just a simple motor that pushes the lock up in the door that does it? ive seen a few kits on ebay, the sliding door would be nice to run into the remote locking but that seems like quite a job, and i dont think ill mind reachin thru the passenger to unlock it anyway lol
thinin of replacing with something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT, i have an alarm on it that can do the CL so can i just buy the motors instead ?

Re: fitting central locking
Would have thought so, assume I can master wire the central locking into a 12vdc feed on the alarms switching side thinking about it.
Ralph how did you do the bolt on electric window winder please?

Re: fitting central locking
Pure fluke, came across (on ebay) a brand new (well - never used) 70s bolt on one that literally fits straight over the winder handle stub. Cost £7 for the whole lot. Came with various adaptors including one for the beetle which ofcourse has the same size stub as the T25. Didn't even need to remove door panel really except to run the power to it. Works a treat. Its literally a box that fits over the stub with a switch on it. Think its called 'Autoglide' - made by a company called Polco but not made today so I gather. Must be other versions out there. You want a 'universal electric window kit' - preferably an old style one as the T25 set up is very retro compared to modern vehicles.
One I used means if it ever broke down, I can unscrew it and fit the handle back on. Others are a bit more invasive and around £50.

Re: fitting central locking
Has anyone managed to get the sliding door working via a contact of some sort? I'm fitting central locking soon and would like to get it on all the doors if possible.
I fitted electric windows recently too, they were much easier than I thought. The only somewhat tricky part was cutting a piece of door away to fit the motor nice and snug. It is so nice being able to wind down the passenger window without lunging across the cab at 50mph!

Re: fitting central locking
Glad you got it sorted.
It's quite an easy job once you've sorted out the giant tangle of wires. Not done them in my van but put electic windows in my Beetle and in a Fyord Orion years ago. Again it's quite an easy job.
