Must cab floor repairs be welded?

Post by hankino »

Can anyone help. I'm 'doing the rust' (1980 T25 2l air) and after a bit of wire brush work I can get glimpses of the road through my passenger side floor (or daylight if I'm laying down in the gutter).

The damaged area is not within 30cm of the seatbelt mounting point, so is it ok to fix with ally mesh, fibreglass filler etc or is it a must-weld? I've read the MOT guidelines, but still not sure...

thanks!

I'm not sure why you'd want to patch it this way. Quicker and probably cheaper (certainly in the long run) to do the job properly. Not a complex job and adds some rigidity to front end in the event of a bump/smash

fullsunian wrote: The rot in that floor would of been to near the seat belt mounting (which is part of the seat), so any seat mounting that is within 30 cm of excessive corrosion would be a fail, especially if it was repaired/bodged like above. Could of also been to near front subframe/ suspension mounts and also brake components...

Always happy to helpwith mot matters

The rot in the floor was by the pedals which is more than 30cm from the seat. :?

Our seat belt mountings are part of the seat structure - the stalk attaches to the seat base.
The question remains really - do we want to put our feet through a floor whilst driving just because an mot tester says it is OK and safe to drive with it in such a condition?
