Is there a o ring between the block thats got the oil pressure switch in and the heat exchanger? (obove oil filter.) Ive got a leak there, i dont remember taking one out but that doesnt mean i didnt

Re: O ring?
if you mean the oil cooler/heater that is directly above the oil filter (i only know that this is on the MV and DJ engines may be on outhers) , then ues there is a big 'o' ring about the size of the oil filter, the cooler is held on by a 27mm nut and you will need a long reach one to tighten it. i dont know about the oil preasure switchs there should be 2 one between the pushrods and one behind the pully wheel.
hope this helps neil

Re: O ring?
Yes, there's an o-ring there, and yes they do get hard with age and leak after a filter change. BTDT.

Same for petrol, TD 1.6, TD1.9 as they use the same oil 'cooler'.

Re: O ring?
cool, cheers for that. Ive just had it all to bits when i was looking into a oil pressure issue, it must of droped out when i wasnt looking
once that leak is sorted i should be back on the road
Also go a set of 2wd HD front springs from mr baxter at the same time as a new oil pump. once that leaks sorted im going to get on the lathe and make some spacer shims up so i can get my tyres under it

Re: O ring?
get a genuine o ring they have little hooks on to keep them in place whilst fitting, the cheap ones don't and can easily be dislodged and compressed in the wrong place, couple of quid difference is well worth it imho

Re: O ring?
bugger it, ive stoped all the oil leaks, and im only getting 1.5bar at 3000rpm and about 0.25bar at idle. The bigest question now is do irebuild or replase it. as for swoping another lump in whats the difference between a 1.9 AAZ turbo diesel and a 1.9 1Z turbo diesel?
Ive a feeling the 1Z is a fly by wire jobby, if so will the AAZ fuel pump fit it so i can rip all the eceltrics off
Im relucltant to rebuild my aaz cause i expect the crank journals will be buggered after how low the pressure is with a new pump in and from previous experance there may well be bits of metal blocking the oil ways in the case!
Sorry i only seem to be picking brains at the mo, but im not up on v dub diesels and whats compatable with what, give m a john deere and its a different story

Re: O ring?
TD (eg. AAZ) is 'indirect injection', and TDi (eg. 1Z) is 'direct injection', they have different power/torque characteristics. The AAZ suits stock T25 gearbox ratios better than the 1Z. The low oil pressure could be due to various fixable things (eg. intermediate shaft bearings), but if you're not prepared to strip it down and sort it out, another AAZ is the cheapest/easiest option. Personally I'd strip it and rebuild, that way you know you've got a good engine.

Re: O ring?
i prob will rebuild it, i was offered a good 1Z engine today cheap, it was cheap enough to be worth a look
if i find a cheap aaz it will go in to keep it on the road while i do the one thats in at the mo
i could really do with it on the road asap, it winding me up having to borrow transport
im toying with throwing a bug together then taking the syncro off the road to do a full rebuild and respraying it, ive just put 2wd hd springs in the front end that have lifted it by 2 1/4 inch
pics to follow

You can't stick a pump designed for indirect injection on a TDI - injection presures for the latter are much higher and the spray pattern inside the engine is completely different - pump designed to match, so the pump would need completely rebuilding and calabrating (they are modular construction so in theory its possable but in practice probubly not. VW also used a bigger shaft inside the TDI pumps, presumably to combat the extra stress/fategue issues the higher presures would create (so what might seem to work well might not manage the miles). Aparently one of the best macanical pumps to use is off the 2.8l TDI in the LT as its mechanical but it'll still need setting up to run right - if you find a working one cheep its probubly worth picking up.
