Gearbox/Axle Breathers
Whilst I've got the tank and box out I was considering extending the breathers up into the snorkel box in order to wade-proof the van a little more. At the moment the pipes are simply stuck through a hole in the engine bay forward bulkhead; they don't actually look as though they belong there so the position could be the result of a previous bodge. Anyone think of a reason/s to do/don't?

that's the correct position onto the top of the tank, if you are that deep chances are you're sat in water yourself and the vehicle is going nowhere, and the chances of the intake system being water tight enough for the engine still to be running are pretty slim, don't forget wading depth is only 50cm and petrols are rated deeper than diesel cos that hot turbo hangs fairly low, though in practice diesels seem to be able to do better due to lack of electric ignition though what wading does to longevity of turbo I don't know, forward motion is required for wading to maintain a bow wave and reduce volume of water under vehicle and once you get to top of sills there will be ingress through the doors/lockers and things get wet inside, since you're jacking the van up mega ammounts I wouldn't worry about the breathers overmuch.

Aidan, I think you're talking sense. The chances of me doing any wading to that degree are slim to non-existent! Besides, as you point out, once the water is up to the sills it would be pouring in through the LPG floor vent anyway. Just an idea. As if I didn't have enough work to do on the van for the time being.
