heater motor

Post by slim_adi »

ive searched the wiki and there's just a topic about removing / replacing the motor

my heater motor only works on "number 3" - and only intermittentley at that. Is the resistor a separate item to the motor itself, or will i have to shell out for motor ? also - i notice that brickwerks sells replacement motors....anyone used one ?

I wrote this up here.

Note as Cruz says you can get a new switch from GSF for £5, or do what I did - quicker, cheaper and saves a trip out. Hope that helps - good luck!

Turn it into a positive. Its your one good chance to get in with the Vactan rust treatment below screen, renew window washer hoses etc. :D

just done my heater motor... it have never worked. When i took it out it was seized solid. Fitted a replacement heater motor from Brickwerks... sorted that but it was only working on the 3rd setting. Turns out the resistor was also kaput (common fault over the VW range) so ordered a new one from Vw (Part NO. 867 959 131), slightly different to the one which came out but I now have a heater for the first time ever with 3 speed settings too! :D

Hey slim_adi, if you are going to do this yourself, if you can, take us some pics for us to add to the wiki entry about this, that would be great.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As for heater motors that squeak ( mine does :evil: ) I often wondered if a strategically drilled hole or 2 might allow access, with a thin bit of copper pipe or similar, to get some lube on the bearing, avoiding all that dash stripping out job !!
You can even get a laproscope quite cheaply these days - that might help to see what you are doing :)
A laparoscope utilizes a video camera and surgical instruments that can be inserted through small incisions.
