Re: exaust question?
Actually, no isn't the definitive answer. Depends what type of exhaust system is fitted, theres two types.
Have a read of this WIKI (bottom of the page) item I added recently and see if you have the same type. Mines a DG but you'll need to look carefully to see if your fittings are the same:

Early 1.9DG engines (iirc up bto July 1985) use the same back box as the 2.0l CU air cooled engine.

BEWARE of some of the after market systems such as the Empi ones which are absolute rubbish.
Brooky wrote:Don't buy an EMPI twin quiet pack exhaust (assuming that you are looking to fit a new exhaust), they are indeed s**t, as I have been told on this very forum but only after I had bought &fitted one (my fault for not asking first). The paint burns off VERY quickly and is instantly replaced by rust. We are talking days here or even just one 50 mile, motorway speed journey, not weeks or months!

Re: exaust question?
But better off with just the header which you should burn the paint off (and paint with VHT paint) and fit your own back box. I find the pipework lasts years if properly treated and a stainless bike box is cheap as chips (between 10 and 30 quid). If you buy the one in the pic, I agree it won't last five minutes. Bit of thought and it can last years but their silencer units are made from recycled baco-foil in Botswana I reckon.
The way I did it, it cost me £80 all in and no rusty silencer. Have a think anyway. You'll also probably have to cut far more rear apron away than I did if you buy that thing. I barely touched mine. Look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8bvi6VuJS0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In fact if you look over to the right in the video, you'll see the box that was on it. Thats the early type silencer box we're talking about. Smoke is burning EMPI paint -

Take a blowtorch to it and burn all that paint off first. You can't do it once its on.

Re: exaust question?
those empi boxes suck big time
they actually rob power too, proved on a dyno.
i'd rather poke hot needles in my eyes that fit one of those pieces of c.rap
