Petrol Smell

Post by richnewton »

filled her up today and there is a definate smell of petrol. i have read about the breather hoses and wondered if anyone had a clear picture of the components.....bit vague in my haynes manual.
Are there any other parts that could fail.
Fuel pipe and filter are recent.
cheers rich

If it's the breathers leaking - when you fill up, petrol leaks from kinda behind the front wheels
If you are a playmobil person then your chances of drowning are significantly increased by wearing a life jacket.

Cheers......thats much clearer!, will try and locate where the smell is coming from and will swop the hoses as i come across them. Cant see a leak as such and no petrol on the drive as yet.

found my leak

Post by ju »

I found a petrol leak in my 25 but took ages as it was leaking over the top of the engine and evaporating before i could get to the engine. Worked it out with the help of a friend in the end.
Can you smell the petrol in the cab, cos if so, more likely to be around petrol tank. And if this is the case, more likely to leak around the top of the tank rather than the bottom due to the design. Only way to tell is to pull it out and have a look as far as i know.

Thanks Rob (Sukhoi 27)

Looking at the entrails of the fuel tank breather setup just after breakfast was a bit stomach churning.

Vorsprung Dumb technik.

I wonder how much of the spaghetti is really necessary, and how much Brussels imposed?

Thanks anyway, I've saved a copy, but hope I never have to refer to it!

I had a quick look last night and couldn't smell anything, its obviously only when its running...........will change the breather hose and the breather tube on the filler pipe and hopefully this will cure it.

My breather hoses are just starting to crack up, got some 6mm pipe on order, but I dont think you can change them with the tank in situ, I have changed the tank so know all about that, but anyone tried to do the breather pipes with tank in? I dont really want to take the tank out again, it was a complete bu***r to get the filler pipe to seal again, even with a brand new rubber grommet.
