when i first got the van the ebr didn't work, the lights came on on the switch but no noise other than a single click. I took it about to find the motor seized and foobarred. Refitted/bodged a drill motor onto it, put it all back together and now when you switch the cold button on, the fan blows cold air into the van.

unfortunately, when you press the heat button you hear the control unit under the seat click once then after a second you hear a second click and nothing else happens, fan doesnt blow..diddly! I have put a tester on all the conncetions at the control box and on the first click power goes through all the circuits (to pump, glowplug fan etc etc )but the power then goes to zero on the second click.

I have checked the fuse, tried it with engine running and now at a loss. Im not sure of the blower should start straight away on the heat button but my initial thoughts is the second click is switching everything off at the control box so maybe thats foobarred. I have checked all posts and the wikki (including irish daves)but can't find the same problem.

there is no voltage drop from the battery, reading nearly 14volts, tried it with and without electric hook up too.

any ideas folks?? :?

morning Eddie

is the pump ok ? take it off and put 12v across it , its a pulse pump so it will / should click once , if not its either knackered or gummed up , you can strip it down a wee bit , there should be a filter in there , pull it out and clean it up ,
also try put the 12v across the pump a few times , might just free it up

cheers mark, before i took it all apart power was getting to the pump but not checked if its pumping yet, will have it off today! Whats confusing me (not hard) is what order things should work, ie, when you switch it on should the fan start first or should it send fuel then the fan starts when it ignites etc. I know the fan is working now. If the pump isn't working would the control unit immediately cut power?

I have had the bloody thing off about 6 times...tis getting on me nerves!! :evil:

not sure about the petrol ones
on the diesel ones the fan start and the glow plug get hot , then the pump starts , few moments then the fan really kicks in and then its hot happy days

hmm, that would make sense...the fact that my fan doesnt start at all except when on the cold button is a worry....will check the pump anyway......want the hot happy days :)

The control unit is sensing that the wrong fan/motor is fitted on start up and therefore will not complete the start up sequence. Why not use the correct motor?
Have you followed the start up troubleshooting timings from the manual?

The only motor i found wasnt tested and too expensive if that turned out not to work so i thought i would try a different one (little did i know) The only manual i have managed to find is only the installation guide and doesnt include fault finding.

I have checked the motor and it clicks once but you can't feel it pumping , not sure if they are supposed to or not and there is only 0.33 volts getting to the conncetors at the pum pend. Other than a big gash in my hand now i am getting nowhere! :cry:

got two control units here. eddie you know I've got two b2l's for bits, but you never called...Jon in sheffield wants to borrow the control units too he's got issues he wants to test, I need to get to lock up.
I've never had either of these running but someone who knows what they are doing and has a working system to check against could probably make 1 good un and some spares, I just haven't got time to faff with them at the mo and went propex myself for various reasons.

If the battery voltage is low then it will do as you say.
They also have a overheat switch which fails, so controlled thinks heater is too hot and shuts it off.
Have you tried it with the engine running?
Tested supply voltage to heater.

I have just started stocking glow plugs for most variants also

Ive got 14volts at the control unit end near the fuse so I don't think voltage is the problem. Ive also tried it when running the engine but you hear the box switch on and off straight away. Ive not tested it inside the eber but believe the control unit is sending the full current for a second before it switches off as tested this at the control unit. Would the overheat switch immediately switch it off before it starts even if cold? is this one of the ceramic thingys inside the box under the van? Any idea where I could get replacements? sorry...lots of questions........

I'm also not convinced the pump is working but tested it with a 12 volt supply and if i turn 12v on and off you get a tiny spurt each time but again, i'm not sure how they are supposed to work....

pump is pulse type ie one squirt every time connection made, there's a switch on the fan that switches every rotation so sounds like the pump is ok and I'd go with locked out overheat device or other interlock


these units have a 10 year life under german TUV any chance that the ecu or internal circuit board have a life expectancy cut out on a chip somewhere. It almost seems if some devices have a 13 month life programmed into them nowadays.
