Coolant circulation Issues after conversion.
Hello,
I bought a t25 about three months ago which is pretty much in scrap condition. It has a clean body and most of the parts were there. The previous owner scrapped it cuz it broke a con rod and therefore broke the block too on the original 1.6D. When I bought it it was dumped on a road side for about 5 years.
After buying I got a Toyota 3c-TE engine installed which runs supererb. However I am having problems with the coolant circulation to the radiator.
I got the radiator cleaned before installing the engine and also got the metal coolant pipes running to the radiator from the engine bay made since the original ones were corroded. Now I did get to drive it for 120 kms without problems but when i drove it fast it overheated and threw all the water out of the expansion tank. On inspection the engine was hot but the radiator was COLD! I have already checked the water pump and thermostat valve and they are in excellent shape.
My mechanic who has good vw experience says that these cars have such issues since their cooling system gets air locked. But once the coolant circulates it will not give any more problems.
Can you guys help me with this since I have tried everything I could but to no use.

Have you perused the section in the Wiki (at the top of the page) on cooling - it has got all you need to know.

is it going the right way round the system?
subaru engines need a reverser, is this similar?

the blue cap on this tank has a one way valve.water should only be allowed to be sucked into the expansion tank.sounds like your cap is knacked.
threw all the water out of the expansion tank

As said, in the WIKI there is a bleeding procedure.. start warming it up and crack open the bleed on the rad.. worth fitting a new pressure cap if its not been replaced.. oj and only the GEn VW ones seem to work properly.. as said, it should let the air out (and a little waqter if pressure high, but should suck coolant bacl in from the top up tank...

Appreciate the replies.
Just went through the cooling section of wiki on bleeding the system. Will follow it tomorrow.
I didnt get the original expansion tank for the van with the vehicle. I had a golf MKII tank lying around so I installed that without the top up tank. Golf MKII tank caps do not have a nozzle but the tank has a small return nozzle which I have blocked off.

The pict of the engine on the right side it shows a collapsed hose.If it is that will cause problems.

Nopes. I havn't conected them yet. Will do once the problem is solved.

It is collapsed because I have removed it. Thats not how it is normally.

how are you bleeding the system ?
maybe taking the thermostat out and trying it then could help

I bled the system following the bleeding procedure in wiki.
