Oh Bugger! Fuel Tank Half Out!

Post by Wolfsburg Willy »

Read on the Forum that "you're not a Syncro owner until you've had the tank out" .... I now know what that means! Box out, tank straps off (well, one fell in two, which is why the tank is coming out) now all I have to do is remove the filler pipe from the tank .... :? How does it come out? It looks like a push fit into the tank or possibly a locking screw ring, but I can't shift anything. I've managed to drop the sender unit side of the tank below the chassis rail but the filler pipe is now the problem. Help needed please!!! Could someone let me know the order of work to get the damn thing in/out. Thanks Guys/Gals.

The filler pipe is a push fit into the tank, but there is a 10mm nut which holds it onto the inner wheel arch. It's about halfway along the pipe iirc.

I used a large crow bar to deform the tank enough to allow it pop out.

You can just see the bracket off the filler tube at the front of the picture.
