changing 1.6D engine to what??????

Post by Tallulah43 »

Hi

We have just bought our first ever camper, a T25 1.6D high top.

My hubby has asked me to ask on here if anyone has any advice on changing the engine.
What would be a good engine to put in that wouldn't need too many adaptations to other bits.

We knew the T25 1.6D would be slow but he is thinking about cutting a hole in the floor and slaving our 3 small children to pedal power :D

Mind you, it did do 100 miles on a tenner......how goog is that :ok

thanks
Lisa

Give it a while, don't rush to change too much at first, you have a road legal van you can use.... Have the engine serviced and give it a fair chance before you decide to invest another lump of money, would be my advice. Make sure the bodywork is sound and that the interior suits your needs etc and the van, regardless of what engine you fit in it, is right for you and your family

Then start thinking about how you can improve it. Like you say, you didn't expect to be racing along in a 1.6D and the child powered mod is certainly environmentally friendly

But if he really wants to get his hands dirty, there's a lot of info in the "alternative engines" section.
What a long strange trip it's been

Good advice.
Maybe he could wire up the kids to a cattle prod as a sort of EF nitrous kit lol. Use it on long hills.
Seriously we have the turbo and it cruises at the legal limit and is only a bit less economical on fuel, we find it fine, stays with cars on the motorway and overtakes goods vehicles, but its a very good one and its been well serviced.
Enjoy the van for now and see if you like the rest of it as Andie said.

Shame to take out a good engine with a bit of life left in it BUT changing mine to a 1.9 1Y made it more modern road useable. I didn,t mind cruising along at 50mph but the four miles of traffic behind me did. Lovely to drive now without having to stir the gearbox at every incline. My KY gave up so I wasn,t in the position that you are in. You can always keep the original engine anyway.

thanks all
well, she does drive easy but struggles terrible on hills....may need to allow 4 days from yorkshire to scotland.

actually, she kicks alot of smoke out while driving too so hubby says her engine is probably knackered. we only paid 1200 for her so we can' t complain :D

have been reading those links and he thinks either a jx or 1y but where do you pick them up?????
