Definitely Ralph and maybe we can keep ours running AND bring them into the 21st century at the same time.
Collectively we're all doing that between us here at 80/90 and after so many years driving and working with v-dubs I have never yet lost the sense of fun that goes with it, or perhaps more importantly the unspoken willingness to help other owners that exists in the VW circuit. I fear the cost of fuel is putting greater pressure on us now but the flexibility in terms of fitting more efficient modern engines and even turning them into electric vehicles, means they will go on for a long while yet and still sets us apart from the disposable cars now on the road. We are the ultimate recyclers. Amen to that eh.

I didn't need to replace my reg but fitted a new one anyway as its done 100K. From GSF, fitted it and had to rev the engine to get the Alt kicking in. Stuff that! Put the the old one back in......they don't make em like they used to!
Replaced mine 6 months ago...non genuine £9.70 posted and absolutely faultless, no blipping required and shows 14.1 volts as soon as it's breathing.
admittedly if your idle is on the low side I accept sometimes the revs need a blip (over 1200rpm say) to trip the regulator, not on mine tho.

I agree Martin, shouldn't have to blip the throttle (unless the brushes need bedding in?) so suprised that my new one performed the way it did. Even when it kicked in the charge was lower than the old one so something amiss there me thinks and may return it or at least ask questions.

Where from......mine has recently started needing a blip, so am guessing that it is starting to wear.

You need to have your alternators number off the label.
Like I say..mine was £9.70 posted
Vehicle Electrics (Birmingham Ltd) The aftermarket number for MY alternator (yours may be different) was VERG 1009 but they have a list to cross reference your particular aternator number against so you can order the correct item.
