Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh damn no. plate lights

Post by little.legs »

:x What were VW thinkin when they designed and fitted those damn number plate lights? Mine both hang like a drunkered from the metal lip of the bodywork and no amount of cajoling will get em to sit right with those stupid plastic clip bits.
One of em is brand new too.

I had an intermittant number plate light....

pulled up to MOT, turned lights on, gave the fitting a smack....then presented it for testing!! Fortunatley, they always do the lights first!! Have since had them sorted properly.

I made flat wads of electrical tape and used them as a spacer on top of the light holder to make them fit better by being fatter. Does that make any sense?

I had to remove mine for the respray. Got them back on no problem - they just slot onto the metalwork and the little plastic clips 'lock' them in place. Have the clips broken off yours or something?

:D The clips are still there 1664 but they just dont seem to grip anything. The light backing plate bit slides into the hole where the wiring comes out of the body. That looks and feels right but they then dont hook up into the metalwork below the tailgate - if that makes sense. Hence they sort of dangle half fixed above the number plate. Surely they should be more secure than that?? :?

You can still buy these new but there are some brilliant LED equivalents in fittings on ebay too.

Perhaps you're not fitting them right. The clips slip over a small indent/ridge in the metalwork. Any chance you can get a picture up?
