Standard 16" wheels on my Syncro 16"??

Post by LLOYDIE »

I am currently running standard 16" steels with 205 80 R16 A/T's, but I feel the wheels are tucked in under the arches a little too much.....apart from going down the spacer route ( changing the front bearings etc) what are the other options....ie what is the widest A/T tyre I can get for a standard steel wheel??
I have seen some real wide things around so it must be possible.
On my other 14" Syncro I have changed the wheel bolts for Brickwerks finest longest bolts which was a job and a half!!!! But I thought of leaving the original wheels on my 16" but it does need that certain stance!!!!

Do you know what I mean????

Anybody help?

Thanks

my 16" is running 255/65/16 but i have wider merc ml wheels and you need to fit longer studs and spacers to get the ml`s to fit. i`d not run anything bigger that 225/75/16 on the std 16" rims and if you use it off road heavily i`d be carefull not to go to big as even with a 16" you will get arch clearance issues. stiffening the suspension will help but then you loose articulation and twin locks are needed.

i dont think there is a cheap solution as you will need the long studs with most if not all alloy wheel conversions. i plan on converting my doka to long studs and useing the std 16" wheels with spacers just to give it a little wider track. probally the cheapest option and a swap to alloys then is made......... simples.......

Thanks Lee, I'm putting Merc ML's on my 14" and went through the changing of the wheel bolts....not good on the front!!! But managed it. Might see how they look and poss change on the 16" later on.

Here is a nice set of 16" alloys that you dont need long stud conversions for ( and there are many other types out there - you just need to find them)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You could fit 255/65/16's on but you may need to do something with the door slider thing.

got 8" ronals for the doka with the wrong et, you still need studs really as there`s not a lot of thread with the std studs and i`d not be happy running with them as they are.

255/65/16 do fit without door hindge mods with merc ml`s. i think i used 20mm spacers on the rear to bring the et to somewhere close to std.

however i would not recomend this size if you are off roading with std suspension.

with 245/70/16 mt`s

and with 255/65/16 at`s

Thanks Lee,
I've changed my front and rear bolts on my 14" to allow for Merc ML's with 20mm spacers on front and rear to set ET to correct. Yours looks how I want mine to sit. So the picture with the A/T has 20mm spacers??
Am I right in thinking you are Swansea way??? We come down to Worms Head every year camping.
Have you done anything to your suspension in the way of raising it? I was thinking about making some spacers out of heavy duty rubber.....just a thought??

Thanks again for your info.
