tuning a wasserboxer

Post by LUBO »

i currently have a plan to build a hot type 4 Aircooled engine. the parts and info for such a build are vast.

as plans can be changed however  are there parts to modify the watercooled 1.9 and 2.1 engines?

ie different cams, cylinder heads, piston kits etc.

anyone jazzed up their wasserboxer?

kev :ok

Sure it can be done fella but tbh i think most people transplant subaru engines if they want extra grunt it'd probably be cheaper in the longrun :ok

Come in Riccicles :)

subaru conversion is probably beyond my diy skills and don't know anyone local who would do it for reasonable money :|

unless someone out there knows different?

I built my 2.1 with an eagle cam from the states (Check cb performance USA), duel twin 40 dells and merged header.
Dyno'd at just over 120hp, the bug absolutely flys!
Have a look on this site, plenty of wbx tuning to salivate over:

Doing the scooby conversion is prob as easy and costs the same as getting good power from the wbx.. (the sccoby will prob have better power and mpg still though) there are very little parts off the shelf for the wbx... the saving grace is a cam change is poss as its type 1 based although I am not convinced that certain ones are much different from the stock 2.1 cam (its quite racey compared to a stock type 1 cam) but lifters become an issue and you MUST fit better oil cooling for reliability..

Now.. there are a lot of other things to think about in there too.. how do I know? well coz I am building a couple of upgraded wbx at the mo (2.1 and 2.2).. and the plan was to offer a version for sale.. if demand is high enough.. but IMHO to do it right so it lasts a long time does in fact mean more investment.. (I am sure there will be someone along to flame that of course  )
