coolant pump late t25 1986!!
Can anyone help me the bearings have gone in our coolant pump 1986 T25. Luckily it made it home 120 miles at the end of our holiday ( when I checked out the noise after we arrived it really doesn't turn very well and water leaks out.
but the JK coolant pump does nto look right, I think maybe that is the early one.
any ideas? places of sale, possible hack repairs etc will be gratefully received.

There are no 'hack repairs' the gland in the pump goes, the pump leaks and the coolant leaks out leading to overheating, engine and financial damage.
Buy and fit a new pump.

Re: coolant pump late t25 1986!!
that is the right one thanks,
I know the haynes manual says as soon as noise or leaking renew the entire unit as this is not a part that can be repaired, but maybe someone knew a short cut. I couldn't swap it out on holiday I crossed my fingers and toes and stopped breathing whilst dylan soldered on and on, and made it home I only greased it to stop the noise no leaking (strangly) during the journing maybe it creates its own pressure on the bearing during rotation.
I am so happy we did not break down, water pump first then 4 winter camps then a few weeks of removing the old exhaust ready for the mot in february.

dont over tighten the belt on rebuild or you will kill the pump/alternator bearings!

Re: coolant pump late t25 1986!!
yeah I bought one today from friend of the site brickwerks and realised it was about £8 more expensive than me picking one up from GSF on the way home after discount, oh well.... It seems so impossible to try and cancel it what with paypal issues and the likes it serves me right for not checking out all the prices and discounts you can get first, it only started off as a couple of quid more expensive from brickwerks until I remembered I get 10% for being a member at GSF, and also if it is wrong it is on my way home rather than postage at my expense.. does anyone have any experience of cancelling orders with brickwerks?
I think I broke the existing one by tightening the belt that was slipping a little on the cold mornings.

Perhaps you should have gone to GSF in't first place ? .... I only posted the link to Simon's site because it is now my prefered source for quality, new, off the shelf replacement parts AND there was a pretty picture to show you it was the right one.
Sorry if I've wasted £8 for you.

Ian.

Re: coolant pump late t25 1986!!
no problem I am not blaming anyone it is only £8 (£15 pretax), I am sure the brickwerks one will be better than the GSF one, it is just easier for me to drive 4 miles to collect one and take it back if it is faulty than do the postage stuff.
( in this day and age every little helps
and considering I have cancelled so many things that were wasting a precious fiver here and there)
I am considering getting the correct temp sender from brickwerks as they have a whole range of them rather than just a black one for temp and a blue one for carb heaters.

From Brickwerks you get a quality pump that will last 100k. From GSF, who knows. Much easier to swallow an extra £8 now then be broke down somewhere when an inferior one packs it in, not getting where you were going, buying more coolant etc.

I expect you are right, I have had some "pooh" from GSF in the past. They used to be quite good when it was EUROPA PARTS they had a lot of knowledge in VW's and things like that now they just look at the computers and tell you the part number and have no advice to go with it.

Re: coolant pump late t25 1986!!
Thanks all fitted all good, only issue I had was with the poor M6 allen bolts to remove the pipes replaced then with stainless header pins for then Bandit 600, and used the blanking screw as it is a combination water pump, half removed the blanking screw and put some instant gasket on it as it was leaking a few drops of water. hopefully now be taking the camper next weekend.
oh and I didn't read the instructions until after fitting it so only used the o ring gasket instead of jointing compound too, I suppose I will need to keep an eye on it for a few hours really.

yeah leaking out the top and out the bottom, only on connections I gave an extra "twist" on the bottom and tightened up the "blanking plug" I wiull check it after a run this weekend hopefully last of the year before there is only just enough light to put the awning up
