Can anyone tell me what it is?

Post by turbodavies »

Hi,

Can anybody tell me what the small plastic tank in the front passenger side wheel well is?

It has 3 small pipes attached to it, one goes in the top and two come out the bottom.

Previous owner appears to have put some screws into mine when fitting a 3rd party buddy seat :-(

I am worried that it is an expansion vessel for the fuel tank or something else important.

Van is an '89 2.1i Petrol DJ engine.

Thanks for the help,

Andrew

So it is the petrol expansion tank?

Best I replace it given the holes then and the 3 pipes as two of them are well worn out.

Are all the pipes local to the front of the van or will I find that one or more come from the engine bay?

Just bear in mind that if your vehicle has never had any work done around the tank area, hoses and sealing grommets that are less easy to get at (Ie on top of tank) may well be just as perished. Its a cautionary tale and why so many seem to experience either petrol smells or even leaks if they fill right up. Tanks too can corrode along seams and on top where water can lay.
