Im thinking of buying a set of thermo mats for bessie but ive been told they cause condensation unless i open the window then whats the point... went camping in her last week had heater on and it was lovely n warm so do i or dont i thats the big question
Hi yes you still get condensation but i would still get the thermo mats as they will reflect the heat in the summer as well as keep in the heat when it gets colder.
ps just remembered we don't get a very long summer
I have camped with both curtains and thermo's in cold and warm temps. My advice is
do what suits you!
Joking, go with the thermo's. Whatever you do you will get condensation. I found less with thermo's. Always try to vent the van anyway.
I use thermos and there is condensation but it's not that bad tbh.
I mainly use them to keep the van dark otherwise my daughter wakes up at sparrow fart and that's not appreciated after a late night round the fire for me LOL.
I didn't find them to be particularly "cooling" on the few hot days we had this summer tho and they can be a pain when you're having to take them off and put them back on every day if you're going out and about.
There's some for sale in the classifieds section here I think. I got mine from another 80-90 member which made them affordable.
JK do some black metal grille that you put in the front windows, which let a bit of air circulate, with out being draughty. They cut down on the condensation problem. Usual soft metal JK standard, but they do the job ok
I was amazed by how much difference they make
Mine are original "Silverscreens" with the silver on the inside and boy do they work well , so much so that having the front windows down about 1/2" for ventilation is a bonus allowing some fresh air into the sleeping environment
There no substitute for a heater but used together on a cold night it only comes on occasionally ....
They also work really well at keeping the internal temperature down when its too hot

We used them this summer in France (very hot weather) and this autumn in Sweden (freezing weather) and they were great. When I could persuade them to remain stuck to the windows of course. Complained to JK and to be fair they sent replacement suckers straight away. Much better than curtains
Great in our van. We use a wet wipe to moisten the suckers and they stick a treat. Only problem was the amount of condensation when we had our two kids sleeping in the van with us. We left a louvre window just slightly open and it seemed to improve.
Condensation will occur (even without the mats) but I take them off in the morning and just wipe the windows down to stop it building up. They do make a difference so worth having winter and summer.
silver side on the inside?! ooohps, i used my newly purchased JK thermos silver side out ie against the glass! They improved heat retention in recent cold weather and reduced condensation until i whacked the propex up higher and left it on all night as i slept.
Make your own! It'll cost about £25 and take a morning, and any left over space foil (currently on BOGOF in Homebase) can be put behind the rest of the interior cards for added sound deadening and insulation.
They really help in the Summer with keeping the van dark, and do help with warmth in the winter. Just remember to put your suckers where you don't have stickers!
