Fitted an electric fuel pump

Post by zoot »

Hi all new to forum can anyone help please. Fitted an electric fuel pump with regulator to our 2.0 air cooled after mechanical one packed in. Wired to the coil, starts first time but dies after a short drive less than half a mile, will start up straight away then dies again. Pump and regulator from JK regulator set at number 1 tryed other settings but same result. Looked in Wiki and posts but looks like no-one had same problem. Any suggestions welcomed. cheers zoot

Why did you change the pump? Could be you have a fuel tank/line/filter blockage.

Hi bigherb Thanks for that, petrol leaked out of pump, diaphragm went in old pump but fuel was going to the carbs. Tryed to get a replacement but were told obselete. Do you think I should wire it to something other than the coil. zoot

I would wire it to a switched live so that it comes on with the switched accessories such as indicators and gauges, I have no idea whether your (or any T25) runs a ballasted coil but if so it could be upsetting the fuel pump, even if the coil is unballasted the current draw of the pump could be affacting the feed to either. HTH.
